Shaheen Afridi Returns to Pakistan for Rehab, Out of BBL 2025 Season

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is all set to miss the remaining matches of his Big Bash League debut season due to a knee injury he suffered. The Pakistan player will have to head back to Pakistan in order to start the process of rehab and preparation for the T20 World Cup, which will begin in February.

Pakistan is set to start the T20 World Cup on February 7 when they meet the Netherlands in a group stage encounter in Colombo, while India will clash with South Africa on February 13 in the same tournament.

"The Brisbane Heat have confirmed that they will be losing the services of Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has traveled back home because of a knee injury. It was revealed that Afridi has sustained an injury in his knee cartilage during the Heat’s victory against Adelaide Strikers in their final over victory at the Gabba on Saturday night. However, after taking medical advice from the medical team of the Pakistan Cricket Board in the last 24 hours, it was decided that Afridi will return home before the T20 World Cup," stated his franchise.

The 25-year-old Afridi was able to take two wickets in four matches he appeared for the Heat. His first match in the Australian league was not the best start, though. Afridi was withdrawn from the attack during the match with the Melbourne Renegades because of dangerous bowling. It so happened that he had already delivered two waist-high balls that disqualified him from bowling the rest of the innings.

“I have enjoyed myself a lot playing here in Brisbane, and I am sad about the fact that I will not be in a position to finish the season with the team. But I am massively grateful to the Heat crowd, who have treated me with lots of love and support.

I am grateful to the players and their fantastic hospitality as well. The BBL is all the things I thought it was lots of great, skillful cricket. I have enjoyed the test of my skills here. I will definitely cheer on the team from the hospital as I undergo my unexpected treatment, and I look forward to crossing paths again,” Afridi said, as reported by the Heat.
