Shaheen Afridi Fined as PCB Tightens PSL Security Protocols After Hotel Incident

The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued fresh guidelines to all Pakistan Super League franchises following a security breach at a team hotel. As part of the action taken, Shaheen Shah Afridi, captain of Lahore Qalandars, has been fined PKR 1 million for his involvement in the incident.

The new directives are aimed at tightening security protocols and preventing similar breaches during the tournament. The new guidelines come after a security breach incident at a team hotel in the PSL. Raza met his family members at the hotel and his meeting was facilitated by Shaheen, as told by the Zimbabwe star.

PCB Tightens PSL Security After Hotel Breach; Shaheen Afridi Fined PKR 1 Million

The PCB took strict action and fined Shaheen. Punjab police said he broke security rules, but Raza said he was actually responsible, not Shaheen. Following this incident, the PCB has sent new guidelines to the franchises. According to reliable sources, the PCB informed franchises via email that players and officials must seek Board approval at least 24 hours in advance before meeting family members at the team hotel.

"The Board has made it clear that anyone wanting to meet with family members in the hotel has to seek permission 24 hours before the intended visit by family members," said the source who is close to the PCB as quoted by PTI. The source added that the Board would try to arrange a suitable meeting point for the player (s) with their family members in the team hotel.

"The Board has also made it clear that only a player's wife, parents, brother and sister are allowed inside the players room, that too after getting clearance from the Board 24 hours in advance," the source added. 

The source said senior police officials were concerned about a security breach after Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar were found hosting four guests in a room late on Saturday night.

"The police officials conveyed to the Board that unless all franchises adhere strictly to the security protocols, it will be impossible for them to provide a safe and secure environment at the team hotel for all players and officials," it added.

The PCB’s security manager and anti-corruption head also raised concerns about the breach with PSL CEO Salman Naseer.
