Seven Cricket Greats to Be Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame Ahead of WTC Final
The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared on Friday that seven legendary cricketers will be added to its Hall of Fame in a grand ceremony on Monday. As per the top cricket body, five male and two female players will be honoured at the event, which is set to take place just two days before the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final between Australia and South Africa at Lord’s.
Titled ‘A Day with the Legends’, the event will be aired live on ICC’s broadcast partner channels, allowing cricket fans around the globe to watch as these iconic players are celebrated. As shared in the announcement, the seven players being inducted were selected by a panel made up of ICC Hall of Fame members, senior officials and media professionals. Each inductee will be presented with a special cap as a token of appreciation for their remarkable impact on the sport.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah said that adding legendary players to the Hall of Fame is the organization’s way of honoring their contributions. He also emphasized that every selection was based on merit. He added that the event would be a great way to kick off the much-awaited WTC final, which is set to begin on June 11.
“Bringing legends into the ICC Hall of Fame is our way of recognizing the game’s greatest contributors. This honour is only given to those whose achievements have truly made a lasting impact on cricket, and every selection is based solely on merit.”
“I’m sure fans all over the world will be excited to see this special event, as we welcome seven new members into cricket’s most respected Hall of Fame. Since this ceremony will kick off the ICC World Test Championship Final, there’s a lot to look forward to and celebrate.”
This year’s Hall of Fame celebration is extra special because it leads right into the 2025 WTC Final. The big game between Australia, led by Pat Cummins, and South Africa, captained by Temba Bavuma, will take place on June 11 at Lord’s. Both team captains will also be part of the Hall of Fame event. The ceremony will start at 4:30 PM BST (9:00 PM IST), featuring some of cricket’s biggest names just before one of the most exciting Test matches in recent memory.
