Sanju Samson to Play in Kerala Cricket League 2025, Joins Elite Auction Pool
Sanju Samson was part of the first Kerala Cricket League (KCL) in 2024, but only as the brand ambassador. With his busy international schedule, he couldn’t take the field. Now, though, the Indian star is keen to actually play in the upcoming edition. Just like other states launching their own T20 leagues, Kerala introduced KCL last year, with several big names from the state taking part. Fans will be hoping to finally see Samson in action this time around.
Now, according to a report by Onmanorama, Sanju Samson is set to take things a step further by entering the auction for the second edition of the Kerala Cricket League. “A source in the KCA said the wicketkeeper-batter has registered for the KCL auction showing his interest in playing the league, which is likely to be held before the next IPL season,” the report mentioned.
Last year, the Kerala Cricket League was held in Trivandrum from September 2 to 18, with double-headers played each day. The final saw Aries Kollam Sailors (AKS), led by Sachin Baby and powered by his unbeaten 104, beat Calicut Globstars (CG) by six wickets. This year, with the Asia Cup 2025 scheduled, India’s international calendar is a bit more open. However, since the Asia Cup will be in T20 format, Sanju Samson could still be busy with national duties if KCL 2 is held in September assuming he makes it into India’s squad.
One Fifty, Many Questions: Samson’s Struggle for Consistency
Sanju Samson had a forgettable Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Rajasthan Royals captain had a rough season, missing several matches due to injuries. He started off playing only as an Impact Sub because of a finger fracture, and just as he looked to return fully, an abdominal injury sidelined him again. This opened the door for young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made headlines with a blistering 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans.
As a result, Samson moved himself down to No. 3, letting Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal take charge at the top in the latter part of the season. To make things tougher, Samson managed just one half-century in the entire tournament a run that didn’t do any favours for his place in the national T20 side. His form had already been under scrutiny after a poor five-match T20I series against England earlier in the year, where he scored just 51 runs at an average of 10.20.
