The auction will be held on September 9 in Johannesburg and the tournament starts on December 26, 2025. Over 800 players had registered, the most in the league’s history. Around 13 Indians, including Piyush Chawla and Siddharth Kaul had signed up and Ravichandran Ashwin recently retired from the IPL has also registered for a foreign T20 league.

Big Names from England, Bangladesh and SA in SA20 Auction

However, his name didn’t make it to the final list of players. Out of the 541 confirmed, 300 are South Africans and 241 are from other countries. The list also features big international stars like Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and England’s fast bowler James Anderson.

Shakib could become the first Bangladeshi player to play in SA20. From England, besides James Anderson, players like Alex Hales, Moeen Ali, Adam Rossington, Jordan Cox and Daniel Worrall are also on the final list.

South African stars such as Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ottneil Baartman, Gerald Coetzee and ICC Test World Champions Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Tony de Zorzi and Dane Paterson also feature in the squad. The SA20 auction will take place on September 9 in Johannesburg and the tournament kicks off on December 26, 2025.

There are 84 spots still open across the six teams with a total budget of R131 million (about US$7.37 million). Out of these, 25 spots are for overseas players. Each team must have 19 players including at least 9 South Africans, up to 7 international players, 2 South Africans under 23 and 1 Wildcard pick.
