England Fast Bowler Jamie Overton Takes Indefinite Break from Red-Ball Cricket Before Ashes

England Fast Bowler Jamie Overton Takes Indefinite Break from Red-Ball Cricket Before AshesEngland all-rounder Jamie Overton has decided to step away from red-ball cricket for an indefinite period, which means he will miss this winter’s Ashes series. The 31-year-old last played a Test in July against India at The Oval but feels his body can no longer handle all formats of the game. Overton, who plays for Surrey has struggled with recurring back stress fractures and those injuries have restricted him to just two Test appearances so far.

"At this stage of my career across a 12-month calendar, it is no longer possible to commit to all formats at every level, both physically and mentally. Going forward my focus will be on white-ball cricket and I will continue to give everything to play at the highest level for as long as I can." Overton wrote on Instagram.

Jamie Overton may not have been the first choice for England’s Ashes squad, but his absence is still a big loss. The selectors and coach Brendon McCullum rate him highly and his recall for the Oval Test earlier this summer showed the faith they had in him ahead of other bowlers like Matthew Potts and Sam Cook.

In that match, Overton went wicketless in the first innings but fought hard in the second finishing with 2-98 despite having catches dropped off his bowling. His effort stood out even more as England were one bowler short after Chris Woakes picked up an injury. Overton was also carrying a shoulder issue in the days that followed.

The Surrey all-rounder has shown his ability with the bat too scoring 97 in his debut Test against New Zealand in 2022. While he has now stepped back from red-ball cricket, he remains part of England’s limited-overs plans. He is included in the squads for the upcoming ODIs and T20s against South Africa and the ODI tour of Ireland later this month.

Overton will also continue playing in franchise cricket. He is set to return to Australia this winter for the Big Bash League with Adelaide Strikers, where he won the MVP award last season. Meanwhile, England are still waiting on fitness updates for Chris Woakes is recovering from a shoulder injury and Mark Wood is working his way back from knee surgery.

Question Marks Over England’s Selection Choices

Jamie Overton has struggled with injuries and busy white-ball schedules, playing only five first-class games in the last two years. So, his choice to step back from red-ball cricket isn’t a shock. It should help him avoid pain, play longer, and earn more from T20 leagues where he is already in demand.

Even so, his story shows how confusing some England Test decisions have been. Overton spent much of the summer around the squad but didn’t look the right pick for the final Test against India at The Oval. His style of bowling didn’t suit the conditions and although he worked hard after Chris Woakes got injured, he finished with only two wickets and nine runs.

Some feel his bowling would have been more useful in Australia, but he was never close to being a first-choice option. What raised questions was him being picked ahead of Matthew Potts and Sam Cook, who had both shown strong form. They may feel unlucky to have missed out.

England are set to name their Ashes squad later this month. If fit, the main pace attack should be Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse, with Ben Stokes also expected to bowl. Overton’s Test career looks over after just two matches in three years. In a rare twist, he and his twin brother Craig were in the same England squad only once against New Zealand at Headingley in 2022.

Radim part time i mislio sam da nikad neću zaraditi više. Ali sada radim od kuće par sati i dobijam 200+ dolara dnevno. Ovo mi je dalo slobodu koju sam tražio. 🙂 Mali trud, velik rezultat 🙂 Ovde www.salary.richjob2.com
