Rohit Sharma Injury Update: Mumbai Indians Head Coach Provided Latest Recovery Update

Rohit Sharma Injury Update: Mumbai Indians Head Coach Provided Latest Recovery UpdateMumbai Indians (MI) head coach Mahela Jayawardene shared that the team management will re-evaluate former skipper Rohit Sharma’s status in the upcoming days after the star batter sat out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 encounter against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

MI suffered a loss against LSG, marking their third defeat of the current season. Having played four matches so far, the franchise has managed to secure just one win.

During the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya confirmed that Rohit Sharma was left out of the playing XI due to a knee injury sustained during a net session. The extent of Rohit's injury and the timeline of his return is not clear yet. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that Rohit was struggling to put weight on his injured knee after suffering a knock in the nets.

"Ro took a hit on the knee, right around the IT band. He attempted to bat yesterday but couldn’t put any weight on it. Again today, he came in early for a fitness test, but still experienced discomfort while bearing weight on the knee. So, he felt he wasn’t completely ready to play this match. That’s why we decided to give him a few more days to recover. It was unfortunate, what happened during the net session," Jayawardene stated at the post-match press conference (via ESPN Cricinfo).

Jayawardene Backs Rohit Sharma Despite Poor IPL 2025 Start

"For me, there is no concern for Rohit Sharma. Rohit batted is just 3 innings in this IPL. He batted well in the ICC CT Final. You guys need to remember a few things cricket is a tough game and we back our guys". Jayawardene on Rohit Sharma's form.

Rohit has had a forgettable start to the ongoing IPL season, with scores of 0, 8, and 13 in his first three appearances, totaling just 21 runs. His last performance in IPL 2025 against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) saw him come in as an impact player. Mumbai Indians have two points so far and stand seventh on the points table. Five-time champions will play against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their fifth game of the tournament, to be held on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
