Rishabh Pant Injury Update – Vice-Captain Back in India, Prepares for India vs West Indies Series
Rishabh Pant, India’s Test vice-captain, is aiming to make his comeback in the India vs West Indies series this October. He has been away from the game since injuring his foot during the England series, which also kept him out of the Asia Cup. After taking a break, the 27-year-old is back in India and has consulted doctors to check his recovery progress, especially with a busy cricket schedule coming up.
As per Cricbuzz, Rishabh Pant has returned to India and has been consulting specialist doctors in Mumbai after fracturing his foot during the Manchester Test. He missed the rest of the game and the final Test and was not picked for the Asia Cup 2025 starting September 9. Pant stayed in England for some time, still wearing a foot strap as seen in his recent social media post. The Indian vice-captain is expected to visit the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru soon to continue his rehab following the timeline given by doctors to regain full fitness.
Pant was struck on his foot by a delivery from Chris Woakes on the first day of the Manchester (fourth) Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, forcing him to leave the field in pain while batting on 37. Surprisingly, he returned the next day with his foot fully strapped and added important runs for the team, completing a half-century with 54 as India’s vice-captain.
Overcoming Past Injuries and Life Challenges
Because of the injury, Pant had to miss the fifth and final Test at the Oval, which India won to level the series. He stayed back in England after the series ended and is believed to have returned to India just a few days ago. Since his injury, Pant has been sharing updates about his recovery on social media.
In one recent post, he wrote: "I just want to say that no matter how much pain you’ve been through before, getting hurt again still hurts the same. The difference is, you know how to push yourself and handle it. Staying positive is huge, motivating yourself really helps. Keep believing in yourself and keep working towards the life you want. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger in the end."
Given all the challenges he’s faced in his life and career, it’s natural for Pant to share such deep thoughts. In 2022, he survived a near-fatal accident that kept him out of cricket for over a year with a serious knee injury. Even before his latest setback in Manchester, he had hurt a finger during the third Test at Lord’s, which stopped him from keeping wicket.
