Richard Whittam KC Takes Helm of New Cricket Discipline Panel in English Cricket Overhaul

In a strategic move set to reshape the regulatory landscape of English cricket, Richard Whittam KC has been appointed as the chair of the newly established Cricket Discipline Panel (CDP). This independent tribunal will assume the responsibilities previously managed by the Cricket Discipline Commission, serving as the primary body to address regulatory breaches and impose sanctions within English professional cricket.

Selected by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) following an extensive recruitment process, Whittam will serve a four-year term, bringing a wealth of experience in both regulatory and sports law. At 64, Whittam is a seasoned barrister specializing in regulatory and criminal cases, with a notable history in sports governance. His previous roles include serving as a deputy high court judge (2016-2022) and leading the Independent Judiciary for the Rugby Football Union. His involvement in rugby union discipline, safeguarding, and appeal panels since 2014 underscores his adeptness in managing complex legal and ethical issues within sports.
