Re-branded Multan Sultans announce their squad ahead of PSL 11

Re-branded Multan Sultans announce their squad ahead of PSL 11Multan Sultans, who returned to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after Sialkot Stallionz were rebranded by the new owners, have announced their squad for the upcoming season.

The entire squad is the same as that formed by the Stallionz owners, with the exception of three players, including Arshad Iqbal, Mohammad Shahzad, and Nasir Khan — all three of whom were roped in after the auction.

Are Multan eyeing any new players?

The franchise has not provided any clarity on these players. Among the three, Arshad and Shahzad have previously featured in the PSL. Batting all-rounder Shahzad represented Islamabad United last season, where he played six matches.

Arshad, on the other hand, has played across four PSL seasons, turning out for Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings in two seasons each.

If Multan release them, their squad size drops to 16, which means they can still draft four players before the league begins on March 26.

Sultans ride back to the PSL

Sultans have had a ride full of twists and turns back to the PSL. The original Multan franchise was renamed as Pindiz after Walee Technologies bought it for PKR 2.45 billion during the auction last month.

However, CD Ventures, the underbidders during the February auction, bought the majority shares of Sialkot Stallionz and renamed it, hence bringing Multan Sultans back to the league.

The franchise was auctioned off in the first place because its previous owner, Ali Tareen, refused to renew the ownership contract for the next ten years. Following his refusal, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to run the team in-house for PSL 11.

However, in the wake of the two new franchises being sold for record-breaking prices, the board backtracked on its decision and decided to put them on sale.

Updated Multan Sultans squad

Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Ahmed Daniyal, Saad Masood, Steve Smith, Jahanzeb Sultan, Sahibzada Farhan, Ashton Turner, Peter Siddle, Tabraiz Shamsi, Delano Potgieter, Lachlan Shaw, Josh Philippe, Shan Masood, Momin Qamar, M Awais Zafar
