Rawalpindi reveals franchise name for the upcoming PSL season
The newly bought Pakistan Super League franchise Rawalpindi, will be called Pindiz in the upcoming edition, as revealed by the owners. The franchise, which was bought for a whopping PKR 2.45 billion by Walee Technologies on February 9, replaced Multan Sultans following the auction.
Rawalpindi replaced Multan Sultans
Previously, the Sultan owner, Ali Tareen, relinquished the ownership rights, after which the PCB decided to run the franchise in-house until the next season. For that, the Pakistan Cricket Board only put up two new teams for auction.
However, buoyed by the prices at which the two new franchises, Hyderabad and Sialkot, were sold, the board backtracked on the earlier decision and advertised an invitation to bids for Multan as well.
The auction garnered a record-breaking price for the franchise, with Walee Technologies going in a bidding war with CD Ventures. Soon after the sale, the new owner decided to change the franchise city to Rawalpindi, though the full name was not decided until now. In fact, the team entered the player auction under the label ‘Team Rawalpindi’.
