Rashid Khan pulls out of MLC 2025 to take a break after tough IPL season

In a blow to MI New York, Rashid Khan has pulled out of Major League Cricket 2025. The Afghan spinner will instead take a break. Rashid was MI New York’s top wicket-taker with 10 scalps in 7 matches. However, unlike last time, Rashid has struggled for form. IPL 2025 was his worst in terms of form as he not only struggled for wickets but also rhythm since his return from injury.

According to a report on ESPN Cricinfo, he’s taking this break to rest and recover, and plans to return in August when Afghanistan plays a T20 series in Pakistan. Since the Asia Cup 2025 might not happen, this series becomes even more important for the team. It’s worth mentioning that other top players like Virat Kohli and Ben Stokes have also taken breaks in the past to bounce back after struggling with form.

Some Afghan Players Get Visas, Others Still Waiting

After the US government announced a travel ban affecting Afghans, there were concerns about whether Afghan cricketers would be able to take part in Major League Cricket. But those doubts have now been cleared, as Naveen-ul-Haq, Noor Ahmad, and Waqar Salamkheil have received their US visas. They’ve joined their respective teams, MI New York, Texas Super Kings, and Seattle Orcas, just in time for the tournament.

On the other hand, Gulbadin Naib and Fazalhaq Farooqi haven’t received their visas yet. They’re supposed to play for the Seattle Orcas, but until the government clears their paperwork, things remain uncertain. Right now, there’s no clarity on whether they’ll be able to take part in the tournament.

MI New York announces Nicholas Pooran as captain

MI New York has announced Nicholas Pooran as their new captain for the 2025 season. The former West Indies international replaced Kieron Pollard at the helm of things. He recently announced his retirement from international cricket at just 29 years of age, which created tremendous buzz. Apart from leading the West Indies in the past, Pooran has also led MI Emirates in the ILT20.
