Rajat Patidar Injury Update: Skipper Likely to Be Fit for Rest of IPL 2025
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar is back in the nets after recovering from a finger injury he picked up during the match against Chennai Super Kings on May 3. The injury, which affected his right hand, took about ten days to heal, and he’s now resumed batting as he gears up for RCB’s upcoming games.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar was seen batting in the nets on Thursday as the team resumed training, just two days before their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 17. According to ESPNcricinfo, Patidar batted for more than 30 minutes but did not take part in any fielding drills.
If Rajat Patidar is cleared to play against KKR, it would be a big boost for RCB, who’ve had a strong season under his leadership. The Bengaluru-based team is currently second on the points table with 16 points from 11 matches, just behind Gujarat Titans due to a lower net run-rate. RCB need to win two of their remaining three games to secure a top-two finish.
Patidar’s return would also help cover for the absence of Devdutt Padikkal, who was recently ruled out of the rest of IPL 2025 with a hamstring injury. To fill the gap, RCB brought in Mayank Agarwal, who has earlier played three seasons for the team between 2011 and 2013.
Patidar has had a steady season so far, scoring 239 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 140.58. He has hit two half-centuries in IPL 2025, with a top score of 64. While he started the season strongly, his form has dipped a bit in recent games. He’ll be aiming to bounce back in RCB’s upcoming fixtures.
After their match against KKR, RCB will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23, followed by their final league game against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 27.
