"Virat Kohli to Continue, Rohit Sharma's Future Up for Discussion": Ravi Shastri

The former coach Ravi Shastri has stated that the star batsman Virat Kohli can play for another two to three years while he thinks that the time has come for the captain Rohit Sharma in test cricket. Both the batsmen failed to impress with the bat and got out for scores in the late tens on the fifth day of the MCG test of the BGT 2024-25. While Kohli made a century in Perth, Rohit has been struggling for form since the home summer.
In his last eight Test matches against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia, Rohit Sharma has made a shocking total of 164 runs, at an average of 10. 93. In his last 15 innings, he has only performed one innings with more than 30 runs.
The Indian captain has failеd miserably in the three Tests that he has played in Australia so far as he has only managed to get 31 runs in 5 innings with the highest score being 10. Rohit got to bat in the middle order in Adelaide and Brisbane and then shifted to the opening slot in Melbourne and still was not able to live up to the expectations of the team. While talking about Kohli, he has made 167 runs in 7 innings in this series.
During the lunch break on Day 5 at the MCG, Shastri was questioned about Rohit and Kohli’s position in the Test cricket team. The former coach backed Kohli to play on for a couple of more years but at the same time, he stated that Rohit might bid adieu to Test cricket post this series at the age of 37.
“No, I think Virat Kohli will play. Virat will play for some time, forget the way he got out today. I think he will play for 3 or 4 more years,” Shastri told Star Sports.
“As far as Rohit is concerned, it’s a call. At the top of the order, his footwork isn’t the same. He is probably, at times, a little late in meeting the ball. So it’s his call at the end of the series. But, having said, this Australian team want it badly. The captain wants it badly. The determination in his eyes was evident even when he was batting yesterday. He was not going to give it away,” he added.
