"Pathetic Captaincy": MSK Prasad Critiques Rohit Sharma's Leadership in MCG Test
Rohit Sharma has faced intense criticism after India’s struggles in the ongoing fourth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test in Melbourne. Former India selector MSK Prasad joined in, criticizing Rohit for his poor batting and what he described as ‘pathetic’ captaincy.
Rohit, back at the top of the order in Melbourne, fell for three and once again failed to score on the bat. Prior to this, he had made 6, 3, and 10 runs in his three middle-order innings. Captaincy from Rohit also came under the scanner with a few experts questioning his field placements and when to bowl the bowlers. On the other hand, the Australian batters look the other side with nearly a formidable first innings score of 474. India however, couldn't cope and by the end of Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test, they stood at 164 for five.
Prasad didn’t hold back, criticizing Rohit’s leadership, batting, and overall demeanor, saying he appeared lost and lacking direction.
“Captaincy has a direct impact on the performance of the team. Unfortunately, Rohit hasn’t been proactive and is struggling. When Sam Konstas was blazing all guns, he continued with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj for 11 overs instead of turning to someone else,” MSK Prasad said on Star Sports during commentary on Day 2 of the Melbourne Test.
“You really raised the topic of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Heading into this series, you know, we had our 3-match series against New Zealand. It was pathetic. It never happened in the history of Indian cricket that we lost back-to-back 3 games. Rohit got absolutely no runs in that series, so he comes into this series. He didn’t play the first game. Bumrah led the side very well, so Rohit comes after the backdrop of continuous failures.”Prasad added.
