Punjab Kings Chase 220 to Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2026 Thriller

[ Poll: nLeJQ8Z3 ]

The Punjab Kings continue their winning run in IPL 2026 after handing Sunrisers Hyderabad their 3rd loss in 4 games at Mullanpur chasing a mammoth 220 after winning the toss and opting to chase. The openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh set the base with twin fifties with skipper Shreyas Iyer finishing things off with a magnificent half century of his own.

The Sunrisers top and middle order flourished under the sun to add 219/6 in 20 overs - the total once expected to be well above 250 the way Abhishek Sharma (74 off 28) and Travis Head (38 off 23) started off with the bat. Shashank Singh brought Punjab back in the game with a brilliant 3-over spell dismissing both the set batters with the bowlers not allowing the Sunrisers to go berserk in the 2nd half of the innings.

Punjab Kings Chase 220 with Ease to Extend Winning Streak

Priyansh Arya started off with a boundary off the very first ball against left arm spinner Harsh Dubey and scored 57 off 20 balls. Prabhsimran Singh faced 25 deliveries to score 51. Arya hitting 5 sixes and as many fours with Prabhsimran clubbing 4 fours and 4 sixes. The openers adding 99 for the first wicket. Left arm wristspinner Shivang Kumar removed both the batters in the 7th and 9th overs respectively and also sent the in-form Cooper Connolly for 11 off 12. Iyer batting at number 4 took 9 deliveries to hit his first boundary and never looked back in terms of strike rate.

The skipper smashed 5 fours and a maximum in his unbeaten 69 off 33 deliveries. His partnership with impact sub Nehal Wadhera was worth 69 runs before Dubey cleaned up the latter's off stump. Shashank Singh at 6 hit 16 off 9 and finished the game in the penultimate over with a boundary. Shivang Kumar was the pick of the bowlers with 3/33, Dubey was the only other wicket taker with figures of 1/38. No other bowler had an economy rate below 10 except Abhishek Sharma who bowled the 19th over and conceded the required 7 runs in 5 deliveries.
