Lahore Qalandars could not have had a worse title-defending campaign. Besides the ball tampering controversy marring it and taking down their best player for two games, their losing streak is pushing them lower each day. The only reason they are not in the bottom-most place is because Rawalpindiz have been categorically worse. In six games, Lahore have four losses, and against Quetta on Friday, it was their third defeat on the bounce.

To no one’s astonishment, Peshawar Zalmi, who still have three games left in the group stages, have become the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The slight, and unrealistic, mathematical possibility of them not going to the next stage was stifled when Quetta broke into the top four with six points in seven games.
