PSL 2026 Expansion: Two New Teams Set to Join as CEO Confirms Major Auction Plans

PSL CEO Salman Naseer has confirmed that two new teams will join the Pakistan Super League in 2026. Right now, the league has six teams, with Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars winning three titles each. Adding two more teams is part of the PCB’s plan to expand the league and make it more popular, especially as it looks to compete with the IPL.
PSL to Add Two New Teams as CEO Compares League’s Growth with IPL
According to GeoSuper, PSL CEO Salman Naseer said that the auction for the two new teams will take place in November. He added that the bidders will be given a list of cities to choose their team names from. Right now, the PSL has six teams, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Karachi Kings.
“An auction will be held for two new PSL franchises. Bidding parties will be given a pool of city names from which they can select one team.,” the PSL CEO said.
The PSL CEO compared the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying that the IPL’s value was dropping while the PSL’s was increasing. However, this goes against the figures shared by the IPL’s broadcaster after the latest season.
The PCB had planned for PSL 2025 to take place at the same time as IPL 2025, hoping to attract players to their tournament instead. But most players who didn’t get picked in the IPL 2025 mega auction ended up playing in the PSL. Some, like Corbin Bosch, still chose the IPL over the PSL because of its higher pay and greater popularity.
