Pratika Rawal Ruled Out of Women’s World Cup 2025; Shafali Verma Named Replacement

Shafali VermaOpening batter Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the rest of the Women’s World Cup 2025 after getting injured during the last group match against Bangladesh at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The ICC confirmed the news on Monday evening and announced that Shafali Verma will replace the 25-year-old in the squad.

The injury is a big setback for India before their important semi-final against defending champions Australia on Thursday, October 30 in Navi Mumbai. Pratika Rawal is the team’s second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 308 runs in seven matches at an average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 77.77.

She earlier scored 75 against Australia in Visakhapatnam and a brilliant 122 against New Zealand in Navi Mumbai. Rawal also shared a strong opening partnership with Smriti Mandhana adding 212 runs for the first wicket in India’s must-win match against New Zealand last week.

"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has approved Shafali Verma as a replacement for Pratika Rawal in the India squad. Verma was named as a replacement after Rawal was ruled out after sustaining an injury to her right ankle while fielding in the league match against Bangladesh on Sunday." ICC said in a statement.

In the 21st over of Bangladesh’s innings, Pratika Rawal slipped on the wet outfield while trying to stop a second run and twisted her ankle. She chose to walk off with help from her teammates. The BCCI said she injured her knee and ankle and is being monitored by the medical team. In her absence, Amanjot Kaur opened with Smriti Mandhana. The match was called off due to rain, with both teams sharing a point. India finished fourth in the group with seven points, while Australia topped the table with 13.
