Perth Scorchers Secure Indonesia's Talented Bowler Ni Made Putri Suwandewi

The Perth Scorchers have bolstered their squad for the upcoming WBBL season by signing Indonesia's promising pacer, Ni Made Putri Suwandewi. Known for her lethal inswinger and crafty slower ball, Suwandewi caught the attention of Scorchers women’s coach Becky Grundy and high performance director Kade Harvey during their trip to Bali earlier this year.

With veteran bowler Piepa Cleary out for the summer due to a knee injury, the Scorchers needed to enhance their pace options and have now secured Suwandewi as an Associate rookie. The 26-year-old has been a standout performer for Indonesia since her international debut in 2019, claiming 49 wickets in 40 WT20Is at an impressive average of 8.18. Her career economy rate of 2.97 is currently the best in women's T20I history.

"I have admired the WBBL from a distance for a long time, and I am excited to be part of it as a player this season," said Suwandewi, who will join a Scorchers team captained by New Zealand's T20 World Cup-winning leader, Sophie Devine.

WBBL regulations permit clubs to sign players from Associate nations, allowing them to be placed outside the standard 15-player roster. Harvey expressed confidence in Suwandewi's abilities, noting, "She possesses a natural inswinger, excellent variety with her slower ball, and can effectively deliver yorkers. Although she is shorter in stature, her skills are exceptional."

Having arrived in Perth recently, Suwandewi has already made a positive impression in training. "She has the potential to contribute significantly to our campaign," Harvey added.
