Prithvi Shaw Faces Disciplinary Action, Omitted from Mumbai Squad
Prithvi Shaw's career continues to face setbacks as the young opener has been dropped from the Mumbai team ahead of the upcoming Ranji Trophy match. In his place, Akhil Herwadkar, a seasoned player with 41 first-class appearances, has been selected.
Additionally, Tanush Kotian has earned a spot in the India A squad for the tour of Australia, prompting the inclusion of left-arm spinner Karsh Kothari in the Mumbai lineup.
While the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) did not disclose the specific reasons for Shaw's exclusion, it raises concerns given his previous disciplinary issues. The decision was made by a panel that includes Sanjay Patil (chairman), Vikrant Yeligetv, Kiran Powar, Ravi Thaker, and Jeetendra Thackeray.
The selection committee believes that missing one match will serve as a wake-up call for the 24-year-old, who has reportedly been neglecting practice sessions and is currently struggling with fitness. In contrast, senior players such as Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur, and Shreyas Iyer have consistently attended training, regardless of their performance.
Shaw's recent form has been underwhelming; he scored 7 and 12 against Baroda, followed by 1 and 39 not out against Maharashtra in his two Ranji Trophy matches this season. Mumbai has experienced mixed results, winning one and losing the other. They are set to face Tripura from October 26 to 29 at MBB Stadium in Agartala.
