Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 Participation in Doubt After Bangladesh’s Removal, PCB’s Mohsin Naqvi Claims Unfair Treatment

Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Mr. Mohsin Naqvi, has dropped a hint that Pakistan might even boycott the T20 World Cup 2026. This decision has come on the back of the fact that the Scotland cricket team has replaced the BAN cricket team in Group C of the T20 cricket event after the latter showed their lack of willingness in contesting their matches in India despite repeated efforts by the ICC to make them do the same. Pakistan has even tried to show its sympathy for BAN on more than one occasion by sending the BCB a letter showing its support for Bangladesh in this regard.

Pakistan May Skip T20 World Cup 2026 After Bangladesh’s Removal

Talking to the media on Saturday, Naqvi stated that a decision regarding participating or not in the T20 World Cup will have to come from the PCB after consulting with Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif. PCB Chairman said that the PM is not in the country. He stated that PM will decide regarding situtaion when he returns and meets with members of his board. He further stated that Bangladesh has not been treated well, and this is a display of double standards.

 Mohsin Naqvi said that,

“We are waiting for the prime minister to return. Bangladesh has been treated unfairly. I said the same in the board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC). You cannot have double standards, where one country can make whatever decision whenever and do the total opposite for another country. That is why we have taken the stand that Bangladesh is being treated unfairly and should be allowed to play the World Cup in any case.

They are a major stakeholder, and this injustice should not be done. The thing is that Bangladesh is the same member as Pakistan. And our stance is that if you have done this favour with Pakistan and India, then you should do the same with Bangladesh. The main reason for this is that one country cannot dictate to another. And if this dictation is attempted, then Pakistan definitely has its own stance,”

The ICC was given a 24-hour deadline two days ago to reconsider its position by the BCB. After discussing the matter with the Bangladesh government, it was decided that their players would not be secure in India and thus there was no point in reconsidering their demand of relocation.
