Pakistan U19 hit with an injury setback ahead of crucial game against India

Pakistan U19 wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Shayan has been sidelined from the remaining World Cup, including their all-important clash against India. Shayan sustained an injury during the team’s practice match when a fast bowler's delivery hit him on the nose.

Further scans revealed a fracture, which meant Shayan’s inclusion in the remainder of the tournament was likely. The wicketkeeper batter played as a backup for Hamza Zahoor, who has taken the gloves for most of Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup and the preceding Asia Cup.
Shayan has played only two World Cup games so far, both as a specialist batter, and batted in only one of those, where he scored only 7 runs.
"Pakistan U19 wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shayan has been ruled out of the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup after being struck on the nose by a ball while wicket-keeping to a fast bowler during a scenario-based practice match," the PCB said in a statement.
"He was taken to hospital, where X-rays confirmed a fracture. A replacement for Mohammad Shayan will be named in due course."
High-stakes India-Pakistan clash
Pakistan are due to face India in a high-stakes game on Sunday, which will largely decide which teams from Group 2 make it to the next stage. Currently, India are at the top of the table in the Group, followed by England, with six points each. Pakistan sit at the third place and would need plenty of things going their way to avoid disqualification.
