Confident Farhan backs his players as tougher stages of the World Cup begin

Confident Farhan backs his players as tougher stages of the World Cup beginExcept for a loss to England U19 in their opening game, Pakistan U19 have had a largely smooth run to the Super Sixes. The team gathered convincing victories over Scotland and Zimbabwe to secure their place in the next stage.

Pakistan ready for the business end of the tournament

They will begin their Super Sixes campaign against New Zealand U19, who lost their opening game to India before their second fixture was washed out.

However, captain Farhan Yousaf believes his side is well prepared for the challenge ahead.

"Our opening fixture in the Super Six stage is against New Zealand, and our preparations have been very encouraging as we have trained extensively," Farhan was quoted as saying by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"We played a scenario-based practice match yesterday, which provided valuable match exposure. With the Super Sixes now underway, every match carries great importance for us."

One game at a time

Following the New Zealand fixture, Pakistan will be up against arch-rivals India. Since the start of December, both teams have been evenly matched, with one win each from their two previous matches.

This will be the third meeting between the sides and, of the three, it carries the highest stakes. However, the Pakistan captain has set his mind on taking things one game at a time.

"The players are aware of the requirements and are taking responsibility by working hard to minimise errors. I have full confidence in this group of players. We will take the tournament one game at a time, starting with New Zealand, and then plan ahead accordingly.

"I do not single out any individual in the field, as every player contributes as a top fielder. Ali Raza has been leading from the front, and his performances have greatly lifted the bowling unit. His spells provide us with early momentum, and all the bowlers are executing their roles as per the plan."
