No Ban on Mustafizur Rahman or Bangladeshi Players in IPL 2026, BCCI Monitoring Situation
During the IPL 2026 Mega Auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) picked up the Bangladeshi star fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for a massive amount of ₹9.2 crore. Mustafizur Rahman has broken his own record by becoming the most expensive cricketer from Bangladesh.
IPL 2026: Mustafizur Rahman at KKR Amid Diplomatic Tensions, NOC and Availability in Focus
Also, Mustafizur Rahman will be the only cricketer from his nation to play for consecutive seasons, which is five seasons. Still, this matter has raised an uproar on the internet. Fans and political leaders have been maligning KKR, saying that their nation has been witnessing increased diplomatic tensions. Amidst these pieces of news, an official update has been revealed about Mustafizur Rahman playing in the IPL.
Since the overthrow of the Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024 in Bangladesh, political instability and violence have risen. Following an instruction from their government, the BCCI had also postponed their tour in Bangladesh this year. In such an environment, questions are being raised regarding Mustafizur's selection in KKR. All Bangladeshi players were ignored in the last IPL auction, but this time, KKR has taken a giant gamble. However, the BCCI has clarified that no ban has been imposed on players with passports belonging to Bangladesh.
As per a report, a senior BCCI official said, "We have to understand that this is a delicate situation. We have been in constant touch with the government regarding the changing diplomatic situations, and we have not been informed of anything that we have to ban Bangladeshi players. So yes, Mustafizur will play in the IPL."

Mustafizur Rahman has already played for Delhi, Chennai, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Mustafizur's cutter bowling and his death overs have always been handy for his teams. During this time, he has picked up 65 wickets in 60 matches. The Bangladeshi pacer has picked up 158 wickets in 126 T20 Internationals. In the previous season, he played for the Delhi Capitals as a replacement player. Only time will say how his journey with KKR will shape up.
