Navjot Sidhu rejects fake post on Gambhir and Rohit Sharma

Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has strongly denied a fake social media post that went viral, which falsely claimed he made comments about India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
“If India wants to win the 2027 ODI World Cup, the BCCI should remove Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir as soon as possible and hand over the captaincy to Rohit Sharma again with full respect,” Sidhu said.
Dismissing the statement, Sidhu took to his official handle to slam the misinformation. “Never said it, don’t spread fake news, never imagined it. Shame on you,” he wrote.

As the online controversy continued, the focus shifted to the field in Perth, where Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made their comeback to international cricket after more than six months.
The two, who last played during India’s Champions Trophy win on March 9, couldn’t make much of an impact in the first ODI against Australia at the Optus Stadium. Playing his 500th international game, Rohit Sharma walked out to open with Shubman Gill amid huge excitement.
He survived a close call in the first over from Mitchell Starc and then hit a classic straight drive for four. But his stay didn’t last long, he was dismissed for 8 off 14 balls after Josh Hazlewood got extra bounce and movement, forcing an edge to second slip. Kohli’s return was even shorter. He faced just eight deliveries before miscuing an attempted cover drive off Starc to Cooper Connolly at point for a duck.
India’s innings never gained momentum and was further interrupted by rain, reducing the contest to 26 overs a side. The visitors ended on 136 for 5 as conditions and Australia’s pace attack proved difficult to handle. In reply, Australia easily chased down the target. Stand-in captain Mitchell Marsh led from the front with an unbeaten 46, helping the hosts win by seven wickets, their first ODI win at Perth’s Optus Stadium. For India’s returning players, it was a quiet match and a sign that they might need some time to get back in rhythm.
