With the IPL 2025 retention deadline looming on Thursday, speculation is rife about which star players may enter the mega auction. While the BCCI and franchises remain tight-lipped, the rumor mill is abuzz. Former Indian captain MS Dhoni recently chimed in on the ongoing chatter, delivering a witty remark at an event.
"Everyone is a team owner now," Dhoni quipped. He emphasized the unpredictability of the IPL auction, saying, "We should be prepared for any player that teams decide to bid on. The auction operates in mysterious ways."
Dhoni, who has led the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL championships, confirmed his participation in IPL 2025 and is likely to be retained for Rs 4 crores, due to a reinstated BCCI rule that classifies players who haven't played for India in five years as 'uncapped'.
“The auction brings uncertainty about where you'll land, but the fans are what make it exciting. They predict which team will sign which player. All teams are well-funded, creating a dynamic market,” Dhoni explained.
