Mohsin Naqvi Responds to PM Modi’s “Operation Sindoor” Tweet Amid Asia Cup 2025 Controversy

Mohsin NaqviMohsin Naqvi, the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is in the middle of a big controversy after he went missing with the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. Amid all the talks and rumours, Naqvi replied to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment about “Operation Sindoor on the games field.” India had a thrilling win by five wickets at the Dubai International Stadium, and Prime Minister Modi congratulated the whole team for their performance in the tournament, where they stayed unbeaten throughout all eight matches.

"#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers," PM Modi wrote on X.

Earlier this year, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, took 26 lives and India responded with Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). PM Modi’s tweet, referencing this operation, clearly upset Mohsin Naqvi. The Pakistan Interior Minister, who has also been accused of mixing politics with cricket during the Asia Cup 2025 criticized the Indian team for “playing with the spirit of the game.”

"If war was your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at Pakistan's hands. No cricket match can rewrite the truth. Dragging war into sports only exposes your desperation and disgraces the very spirit of the game," Naqvi replied.

India Refuses Trophy from Pakistan Interior Minister

The Pakistan Interior Minister was supposed to hand the trophy to Suryakumar Yadav’s team, but India refused to accept it from him. Mohsin Naqvi, refusing to let anyone else take the spotlight, walked out of the stadium with the Asia Cup trophy to his hotel, halting the ceremony midway. Despite this, India’s team stayed cheerful, celebrating their Asia Cup 2025 win in style and even posing with imaginary trophies, playfully trolling Naqvi.

Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB chief, is being criticized for mixing politics with cricket and disrespecting the champions. Even before the Asia Cup 2025 final started, it was clear India would not accept the trophy from him, but he still showed up at the presentation. ACC officials tried to get Emirates Cricket Board chairman Khalid Al Zarooni to hand over the trophy, but Naqvi stopped it. During the tournament, tensions were high as Indian players refused to shake hands with Pakistan and Suryakumar Yadav skipped the captain’s photoshoot before the final.

Earlier in the tournament, after India’s group-stage win, Suryakumar dedicated the victory to the Indian Armed Forces. Following India’s triumph in the final, the Indian skipper announced that he would donate his match fees from all the games to the Indian Army, showing respect and solidarity despite the off-field controversies.
