Mohammed Shami Returns to India Squad for T20 Series Against England
According to the reports the selectors have selected Dhruv Jurel as the backup wicketkeeper for the team While Sanju Samson, who has been performing exceptionally well in his recent games, remains the first choice. This change comes as Rishabh Pant has not been selected for the team.
The Indian team is getting Mohammed Shami back for the T20 series with England that begins on January 22 in Kolkata. Shami hasn't played for India since the 2023 World Cup Final in Ahmedabad.
He missed the tough tour of Australia with the Indian team because his knee became swollen. Due to an ankle injury, he needed surgery so he couldn't play for some time, but he made a comeback by playing in important domestic cricket tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and also the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
On December 23, the BCCI announced: “After a medical review from the scans, the BCCI medical team has decided that Shami’s knee needs more time to adjust to bowling loads. As a result, he was not considered for the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.”
Dhruv Jurel is also in the team now as the backup wicketkeeper, because they've got Sanju Samson as their main man for that spot. Rishabh Pant isn't going to join the team now. In place of Ramandeep Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy was selected for the T20I squad after impressing selectors with his performance during the Test series in Australia.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is rested for the series, Abhishek Sharma will open with Sanju Samson. Also, Shivam Dube is no longer part of the team. Due to injury, Riyan Parag isn't in the squad.
SuryaKumar Yadav will lead the team and Axar Patel will be the vice captain of the team.
