Meg Lanning Named UP Warriorz Captain for WPL 2026, Replaces Deepti Sharma

UP Warriorz have made Australian star Meg Lanning their new captain for WPL 2026. She is a top-order batter and earlier played for Delhi Capitals Women. UP Warriorz bought her for ₹1.90 crore in the 2025 mega auction. 

Lanning will replace all-rounder Deepti Sharma, who was the stand-in skipper for UPW in WPL 2025. Lanning boasts of a prolific record as a captain in WPL, having led DC to the finals in all three seasons.

The Australian star now has a big responsibility to help UP Warriorz win their first WPL title. The team has made major changes and kept only one uncapped player, Shweta Sehrawat, before the WPL 2026 mega auction.

We’ll work hard together and give ourselves every opportunity to lift the trophy,” Lanning said.

UP Warriorz will start their WPL 2026 journey against Gujarat Giants on January 10 in Navi Mumbai. The final match will be played on February 5 in Vadodara.
