Karnataka Govt Gives Conditional Approval for Chinnaswamy Stadium to Host IPL 2026 Matches

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are in big relief, when the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the state government has allowed M Chinnaswamy Stadium to host IPL 2026 matches. In the cabinet meeting, officials are seriously discussed about the issue then they took a decsion about the issue. The Bengaluru stadium had not played any single game since the stampede in June, after RCB’s first IPL title win, which killed 11 people and injured several others.

Chinnaswamy Stadium Cleared by Karnataka Government for IPL 2026 with Strict Safety Guidelines

According to Reports, the Karnataka cabinet has now allowed and given permission to play matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium again. The government also said it clearly all the safety and security rules suggested by the Justice Cunha Commission must be strictly followed. On Wednesday, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met the new KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad and promised him that the matter would be discussed in the cabinet. He also said the state has no plans to move cricket out of Bengaluru.

“They (KSCA) government solved the issue and took permission to hold matches in Bengaluru, and we will assure them that the matter will be decided at the cabinet meeting on Thursday. We have no intention of stopping cricket matches, but crowd management needs regulation,” said that DK Shivakumar.

before that, the Justice John Michael Cunha Commission, after the Bengaluru stampede, had declared the M Chinnaswamy stadium not fit to hold matches in Bengaluru. The commission report claimed that the Chinnaswamy stadium structure is not suitable and unsafe for big crowds.

Reports said that Women’s World Cup matches were changed to the stadium after the stampede, and domestic games were also not played any games in M Chinnaswamy stadium ,After that, Maharaja Trophy games being shifted to Mysuru. Bengaluru stadium is not listed as a venue for the T20 World Cup 2026. However, with the Karnataka government clearing the fans, the KSCA government is trying to convince the BCCI to hold the matches for at least some more games before the IPL.
