**Kamindu Mendis Wins ICC Emerging Player of the Year 2024 with Record-Breaking Performances**The Sri Lankan star young and talented cricketer Kamindu Mendis has been named the ICC Emerging Player of the Year for 2024. The 26-year-old all-rounder has scored a total of 1451 runs across all the International formats with an excellent average of above 50. 

Kamindu Mendis helped the Sri Lanka team from out of trouble many times. In Test cricket, his performance was amazing throughout the year scoring 1.049 runs in just nine matches with an impressive 74.92. He scored 5 centuries and 3 half-centuries in Test cricket in the calendar year 2024. 

Kamindu Mendis Heroics Against New Zealand

His career-best score of 182 came against New Zealand in Galle. His heroics helped Sri Lanka set a huge target for New Zealand in a Test match. Sri Lanka won the Test series with a clean sweep 2-0. Mendis also matched the Australian Don Bradman record by reaching 1000 Test runs in just 13 innings.

Mendis said in a statement to the ICC after winning the ICC Emerging Player of the Year for 2024 award: “I’m really happy to be named the Emerging Player of the Year. It means a lot to me, I want to thank my family, teammates, and coaches for their support. The innings I’m most proud of is my century against England. Scoring a hundred in England isn’t easy, and it took a lot of effort. I think that was my best innings last year."

 

“I’ve worked really hard in the nets, during practice, and in training over the last couple of years, As a team, we’ve also worked hard and achieved some great wins last year."- Mendis added.

Mendis again comes into action this year to play the Test series against Australia on January 29.
