Jos Buttler joins Babar in the list of batters with 4000 T20I runs
England batter Jos Buttler has broken into the 4000-run club, joining the likes of Babar Azam, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.
Buttler closes in on Babar
Besides Babar, Buttler is the only current batter with more than 4000 runs, which also makes him England’s highest and overall the fourth-highest run-getter in the format. He is closely followed by Ireland’s Paul Stirling, who is in fifth spot with 3895 runs.
He reached the milestone in England’s T20 World Cup game against Scotland, despite getting out for just three runs. It took the English batter 150 innings to reach 4000 runs, and he has done so at a better strike rate than any other player in the top five — 148.58.
Can England repeat 2022?
Despite Buttler’s low return, England were able to keep Scotland at bay and win the game by five wickets. By doing so, they kept their Super Eights hopes alive, which had dwindled significantly after West Indies triumphed over them on Wednesday.
They will next face Italy at Eden Gardens, the same venue where they played Scotland.
This is England’s first T20 World Cup since 2021 in which they are not being led by Buttler. The wicketkeeper-batter led the side to the trophy in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where they defeated Pakistan to lift their second title.
