Jonathan Trott Gets One Year Extension as Afghanistan's Head Coach

Afghanistan cricket board has given a one-year extension to current Afghanistan men's team head coach Jonathan Trott after a brilliant performance by the Afghanistan team in the T20 World Cup 2024, where the Afghanistan team reached the Semifinal of the T20 World Cup for the first time.

Trott will continue as Afghanistan's head coach until the end of 2025, but he will coach only in the one-day international format; he will be unavailable for the other two formats due to personal reasons. Hamid Hasan will be the head coach for the other two formats during his absence.

Afghanistan's next games will be a multi-format series against Zimbabwe; he will also coach the team in the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan, where Afghanistan will play for the first time.

Under Trott, Afghanistan's team performance has been monumental, whether it's defeating big teams like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka during the Cricket World Cup 2023. The team also played for the first time in the T20 World Cup semi-finals while beaten by South Africa. The team performed brilliantly in the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, defeating New Zealand and Australia in the group stage.
