Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir Facing Heavy Criticism, What's His Future after Continuous Defeats

Gautam Gambhir, who became Team India's new head coach in July, is now facing heavy criticism on social media amid the Team's poor performance since then.

Gambhir started his assignment as Team India's coach after Rahul Dravid completed his tenure by winning the ICC T20 World Cup. However, his performance so far, especially in test cricket, hasn't impressed anyone. 

His philosophy as a coach involves allowing players to play their own game, building trust-based relationships, focusing on winning while playing hard, and creating a happy dressing room environment. 

His Performance till Now

Test Cricket 

• Series against Bangladesh: India won 2-0

In the series against New Zealand, New Zealand did a clean sweep and won the series by 3-0. This was after 12 years that India lost the series at home, but the defeats attracted criticism from cricket fans and fraternity around the world. 

In the Border Gavaskar Trophy, India won only one of the four matches played and lost two while one was drawn.

Since Gambhir's coaching stint started, in the nine matches that have been played, India has won only three matches, two of them with Bangladesh, which are not as significant. The last match of the series remains in Sydney, and if India does not win that test match, then India will lose the Border Gavaskar. And it will break the winning streak since 2016. India has won the last 4 test series against Australia while losing the last series in 2014, which was Mahendra Singh Dhoni's last series.

ODI &T20 Performance 

Under him, India has won nine out of ten T20 matches, including the series against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

In the ODI, Gambhir had performed worse, as India could not win any one-day international match since his stint started. India lost two matches against Sri Lanka, and one match was a tie. It was after 25 years that India lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka.

His Future

After the team's continuous poor performances, questions have arisen about Gambhi's coaching style, and fans are continuously expressing their disappointment with him on social media.

As per the reports, if India lost the series against Australia, the BCCI would review Gautam Gambhir's performance and, based on the findings, will likely make a tough decision.
