Jasprit Bumrah at BCCI CoE Ahead of IPL 2026, Yet to Join MI Camp
In just six days, the Mumbai Indians (MI) will start their IPL 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. But Jasprit Bumrah has still not joined the team’s pre-season camp.
Bumrah was one of India’s best players in the T20 World Cup 2026, along with Sanju Samson. He performed brilliantly in the semifinal and final, and many even called him the player of the tournament. He was bowling fast again, touching speeds of 146 kmph, looking like his old self.
However, two weeks later, Bumrah has not started training for IPL 2026. Instead, he is at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Karnataka, as per reports. It is not clear whether he is injured or just there for a routine check. During the World Cup, he looked fully fit, so it could just be an assessment. The BCCI has always been careful with his fitness as he is a key player for India.
Workload Management Continues for India’s Pace Spearhead
Even last year, he was rested for two matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and he hasn’t played an ODI since the 2023 World Cup. All this suggests he is being managed carefully.
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene had earlier said that all players, including those from the T20 World Cup, would join the squad by March 22 after a short break. But that hasn’t happened yet, as Bumrah has not even reached Mumbai.
Given his past injury issues, MI will be cautious. He also missed the first four matches of IPL 2025 due to a back injury. If Mumbai Indians want to win their sixth IPL title, they will need a fully fit Bumrah and will hope his visit to the CoE is just a normal check.
