Islamabad United bring in Blessing Muzarabani in place of Shamar Joseph
Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United have replaced Shamar Joseph with Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani for the upcoming season. Joseph, who was bought by the franchise for PKR 11 million at the auction on Wednesday, was set to make his PSL debut with the franchise.
No comment on contract termination
However, it is understood that the contract has been terminated amicably between United and Joseph, with the PSL’s technical committee likely to accept the decision. Both the player and the franchise have refused to disclose the reason behind the move.
There were reports that the decision was taken just a day after the auction, which were fuelled by Islamabad taking down the post announcing Shamar Joseph’s inclusion in the franchise. In addition, a graphic featuring Islamabad’s squad shared on the franchise’s official social media page also did not include the West Indian pacer.
Muzarabani helped down Australia
Muzarabani, who took the world by storm with his clinical performance against Australia on Friday, had entered the auction at a base price of PKR 11 million. However, he went unsold.
Muzarabani had played 15 games across three PSL seasons previously, representing Karachi Kings in two seasons and the now defunct Multan Sultans in his first. He grabbed 4 for 17 against Australia at the T20 World Cup to help Zimbabwe get over the line.
He is the only other Zimbabwe cricketer, besides Sikandar Raza, who plays for Lahore Qalandars, to be a part of the league this season.
