Islamabad United reportedly release Shamar Joseph a day after PSL auction
Islamabad United are understood to have released Shamar Joseph from their squad for the upcoming PSL, just a day after the franchise bought him for PKR 1.1 million at the auction.
While there has been no official confirmation regarding the move, a graphic of Islamabad’s squad shared on their social media handle does not feature the West Indian cricketer.
In addition, United have also taken down the post announcing the fast bowler’s inclusion in the franchise.
Why have United removed Shamar Joseph?
Joseph’s inclusion in Islamabad United was met with significant backlash from the fans. The West Indies pacer has been accused of sexual misconduct, including rape, by multiple women last year. While there has been no official legal update made public, the allegations marred his reputation and are believed to be the reason behind United's decision.
Shamar Joseph, who is currently in India as part of West Indies T20 World Cup squad, was set to play his debut PSL season. He was previously added as a replacement for Gus Atkinson last year by Peshawar Zalmi, but he did not play any matches for the franchise.
