IPL 2026 Trade Update: CSK Miss Out on Washington Sundar as Sanju Samson Move Nears

IPL 2026 Trade Update: CSK Miss Out on Washington Sundar as Sanju Samson Move Nears

[ Poll: KyRjGnyA ]

A day hardly goes by without some new update from the IPL 2026 trade market. With Sanju Samson almost confirmed to join CSK and Ravindra Jadeja likely heading to RR, another possible trade between CSK and GT has reportedly fallen through. According to the Indian Express, Chennai’s plan to bring in all-rounder Washington Sundar from Gujarat is not going to happen.

It seems, Washi would have been the perfect candidate to replace now retired R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, but GT seem to have declined the offer, as the team feels the youngster could play a pivotal role, going forward. That also means, Chennai are left without the presence of a frontline Indian spinner, perhaps for the first time over the course of their existence.

CSK Miss Out on Washington Sundar in IPL 2026 Trades

Yes, they have Noor Ahmad, but they wanted an Indian spinner to lead the attack. Now they’ll have to wait for the December auction. They will likely look for some young Indian spinners who can take on that role.

Even though Washington Sundar is very talented with both bat and ball, he hasn’t been used much in the IPL, mainly because of the Impact Player rule. In 2023, he played only six matches for SRH, and the next year he got just two games. For GT in 2025, he played six matches. So in nine IPL seasons, he has played only 66 matches in total.
