IPL 2025 Transition: Full List of Coaches Who Resigned, Trade Rumours and Updates Before IPL 2026

The Indian Premier League has seen one of its busiest years since the tournament started. There have been many changes. Big-name coaches have left. Some players moved to other teams in deals that set new records. Teams are working in new ways to change how they play for the future.

Dravid’s Shock Exit After Just One Season

In August 2025, Rahul Dravid shocked fans when he left his spot as Rajasthan Royals’ head coach. He did this only a year after he joined the team again. Dravid coached RR from 2013 to 2015. He was back after helping India win the T20 World Cup in 2024.

The Royals tried to ask Dravid to stay and wanted him to be more involved. He chose to leave the team. Some reports say that he, Sanju Samson, and the management did not always agree about which players to pick. This made things hard for them, but they all said in public that there was no problem between them.

Kolkata Knight Riders went through a big change. Chandrakant Pandit, who helped KKR win the IPL for the third time in 2024, left his job in July 2025. The team did not do well in 2025 under the new captain Ajinkya Rahane. They could only get five wins out of 14 games. The team ended up in eighth place. Bharat Arun, who had been with the team as the bowling coach for a long time, also left the the team.

The franchise said thanks to Pandit for what he did for them. They have now started to build again, with Abhishek Nayar, who played for India as an all-rounder, coming back as the assistant coach.

Lucknow Super Giants have faced a lot of uncertainty. Many people have left the team. Now, the franchise is trying to find some stability. Zaheer Khan stopped being a mentor in August 2025. He was in this role for only one year. There are reports that say he did not get along with head coach Justin Langer.

Justin Langer’s future is still not known after two seasons that did not go well and had no playoff spot. The team has already brought in Bharat Arun, who used to be with KKR. He now has a bigger job with the RPSG cricket group. This shows the team may be looking for a new direction.

Sanju Samson Requests a Trade

Another surprise was when Rajasthan’s captain Sanju Samson asked to be traded or realse him into the auction. Chennai Super Kings wanted him, but they did not want to let go of Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad. Samson has a contract until 2027, so Rajasthan have more control over what happens in trade talks.

R. Ashwin Bids Farewell

Veteran spin bowler R. Ashwin said that he will retire from the IPL in August 2025. He played in the league for 17 seasons. He was in 221 matches. He took 187 wickets and scored 833 runs in that time. Ashwin talked about joining other T20 leagues around the world. He said, “Every ending has a new start.” His choice could make other senior Indian players look for new chances in other countries.

KKR is looking at Eoin Morgan to be the new head coach. The team is focusing on helping young players grow after letting go of Shreyas Iyer.

RCB is strong under Andy Flower right now. Dinesh Karthik is now moving into a batting coach and guide role likely to go with same.

MI: Mahela Jayawardene is the current head coach for the Mumbai Indians (MI) and likely to returned the role ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
