IPL 2025 to Introduce Major Rule Changes by Implementing ICC Code of Conduct Rules
In 2025, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will include the new rules. Now, all the players have to play by the rules set by the International Cricket Council (ICC). A major decision was approved by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the General Council meeting on Sunday
The IPL will start using the ICC Code of Conduct for actions classified as Level 1, 2, or 3 offenses. They are making this change to align the tournament's rules with the ICC T20I matches rules. Earlier, the IPL had its own special set of rules for player behavior designed specifically for the league.
A senior member of the IPL General Council explained:
“From now on, ICC penalties will apply to all Level 1, 2, or 3 violations. Until now, the IPL had its own Code of Conduct, but moving forward, we’ll follow the ICC T20I guidelines for Playing Conditions.”
Rajeev Shukla, who is the Vice-President of the BCCI, has announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is beginning on March 23.
Violations in IPL 2024
Due to the 10 Code of Conduct violations that were reported during IPL 2024, these new rules were implemented. Here are some notable incidents:
Harshit Rana from KKR was involved in two level 1 offenses. Rana sent a flying kiss to Mayank Agarwal after getting him out and Rana got too excited celebrating against the Delhi Capitals team. These mistakes made him lose some of his match fees and he had to sit out a match.
Other players, including Virat Kohli (RCB) and Tim David (MI), were also penalized for Level 1 offenses during the season.
What These Changes Mean
The IPL wants the new changes to lead the tournament with less conflict on the field and encourage players to behave better. Due to the ICC rules, the punishments for making mistakes and not following rules might become tougher.
This move reflects the league’s commitment to maintaining high standards and fairness in the game. Fans can expect a more disciplined tournament in the 2025 season.
