IPL 2025: Tilak Varma Finally Breaks Silence on Controversial 'Retired Out' Call vs LSG

Tilak Varma Finally Breaks Silence on Controversial 'Retired Out' Call vs LSG

Mumbai Indians (MI) young batter Tilak Varma found himself in the middle of a controversy when he was retired out during a run chase against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The move sparked debate with many fans and experts questioning the call made by the MI team management. However, it was later clarified that Tilak had a finger injury at the time was affecting his power hitting.

Putting the controversy behind him, Tilak bounced back with two solid fifties in a row. Speaking about the incident, he supported the decision made by the coaching staff and revealed that he had informed MI's Director of Cricket, Mahela Jayawardene, that he was comfortable batting in any position for the team. His mature response and strong performances have helped settle the debate and shown his team-first attitude.

"I was just thinking that they have taken the decision for the teams purpose so I was taking in the positive way and didn’t take it in the negative way but the main thing is how you take it's more important so I was thinking it that way. I just want to be comfortable wherever I bat so I said that to coach and staff that ‘don't worry wherever you play me I'm comfortable and I'll give my best". Tilak said.

Tilak Varma’s Consistent Form Powers MI to Key Victory

Tilak Varma made history by becoming the first Mumbai Indians (MI) batter to be retired out. But he quickly silenced the critics with his bat. In the very next game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scored a solid 56 off just 29 balls and nearly took MI over the line, though the team eventually fell short by 12 runs despite a late fireworks display from Hardik Pandya.

Against Delhi Capitals (DC), Varma came in to bat at No. 4 in the eighth over and continued his good form. He hit 59 runs off 33 balls with six boundaries and three sixes as he helped MI reach a fighting total of 205/5. He was bowled in the last over by Mukesh Kumar. Tilak is MI's second-highest run-getter in IPL 2025 with 210 runs in six games at an impressive average of 42. His consistency and composed nature have turned out to be a major plus for the team.

Mumbai Indians (MI) picked up their first away win of the IPL 2025 season by holding their nerve in a tense match against Delhi Capitals (DC). Despite a stunning 89 off 40 balls from Karun Nair, MI’s bowlers kept things tight and sealed the win in the final overs. This crucial victory helped MI move up to seventh on the points table with two wins from six games and a healthy net run rate.

Led by Hardik Pandya, MI will now shift focus to their next big clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), captained by Pat Cummins. The match will take place on April 17 at Wankhede Stadium, their home ground.
