IPL 2025: Shardul Thakur Joins LSG for IPL 2025, Replacing Injured Mohsin Khan

Indian medium-pacer Shardul Thakur will replace Mohsin Khan in the Lucknow Super Giants squad for IPL 2025. Meanwhile, Mayank Yadav’s availability for the season is still uncertain as he is recovering from an injury he suffered last year during the T20 series against Bangladesh. Thakur has been part of the team since they started preparing for IPL 2025 and will now replace the injured Mohsin in Rishabh Pant's team.

As reported by The Times of India, Thakur has been told about the decision and will be traveling with the team to Visakhapatnam for their opening match against Delhi Capitals.

Mohsin injured his ACL in December, which has kept him from bowling since then. When he finally started bowling again in the Lucknow nets, he suffered a calf strain. With their main group of fast bowlers still recovering at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, the team management had no choice but to look for an injury replacement.

The pace attack, mainly featuring Indian bowlers Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Mayank, is yet to come together for the Indian Premier League. Akash and Mayank are currently at the CoE, while Avesh hasn’t joined the team yet as he’s still recovering from a knee injury.

Mayank has started bowling with less intensity in the nets, but he is still far from being match-fit. He has been struggling with multiple injuries over the last five months. He’s dealt with a side strain, a hamstring issue, and pain in both his left and right back. Because of this, he hasn’t been able to play a competitive game during this time. Even if Mayank gets approval from the CoE to join Lucknow, it’ll be tough for him to manage playing the whole season.

“The situation is dynamic for some of our players due to injuries. But it’s time that we look for positives and adopt things to tackle the situation amicably. Some players are at the National Cricket Academy and others are spending time with their physios," mentor Zaheer Khan had said.

With the main fast bowlers unavailable, Thakur will now take charge of the bowling attack since he is the most experienced among them.
