IPL 2025: Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals Fined for Slow Over-Rate in Clash Against Gujarat Titans

IPL 2025: Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals Fined for Slow Over-Rate in Clash Against Gujarat TitansSanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during Match 23 of the IPL 2025 against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This was RR’s second over-rate offence in this season of the tournament. Earlier, the team was also penalised for the same issue during their game against Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. In that match, stand-in captain Riyan Parag led the side in Samson’s absence, and was fined INR 12 lakhs.

However, on Wednesday, the BCCI imposed a heavier fine of INR 24 lakhs on Sanju Samson. According to an IPL media release, the rest of the Playing XI — including the Impact Player — were fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25% of their match fee, whichever is lower.

Sai Sudharsan Shines as Gujarat Titans Post a Strong Total Against Rajasthan Royals

Gujarat Titans (GT), playing at home, secured a dominant 58-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR), marking their fourth win in a row in IPL 2025. Sai Sudharsan was the star once again, playing a classy knock of 82 off 53 deliveries. Supporting contributions came from Jos Buttler and Shahrukh Khan, who both added 36 runs each, while Rahul Tewatia chipped in with a handy 24 guiding GT to a strong total of 217/6.*

In reply, Rajasthan Royals had a shaky start to their chase. Arshad Khan struck in the second over, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal. Moments later, Nitish Rana also fell cheaply managing just a single run. RR found themselves in early trouble at 12 for 2 within just 2.2 overs.

Captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag tried to steady the chase with a 48-run stand, but Kulwant Khejroliya, coming in as the Impact Player, broke the partnership by dismissing Parag for 26. Soon after, Dhruv Jurel departed for just 5, leaving Rajasthan Royals under pressure at 68/4.

Samson, who looked in good touch with 41 runs, was then removed by Prasidh Krishna. After the captain’s fall, RR struggled to rebuild. Impact Player Shubham Dubey could only score 1 before being trapped by Rashid Khan. Prasidh Krishna continued his fine spell by removing Jofra Archer and then dismissing Shimron Hetmyer, who top-scored with a fighting 52.

Rajasthan Royals were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19.1 overs, handing Gujarat Titans a convincing 58-run victory.
