IPL 2025: Chennai Super Kings Performance | Dhoni’s Magic Over?
The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings once again disappointed this season, as the team finished in last position, repeating last year's performance. An even bigger disappointment for the team came when former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni returned as captain but couldn't change the team's fate, as the team performed the worst in their history. The team also faced a setback with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad being ruled out of the tournament mid-season due to injury. In this article, we will discuss the Chennai Super Kings' performance this season.
CSK: No. 10th In the Points Table
Chennai, which was one of the most successful teams in IPL history until IPL 2023, faced unexpected outcomes in the next two years that very few of their fans had imagined. CSK finished the IPL 2025 in last place, winning only four matches in the season and losing ten. An even bigger disappointment for the team was the failure of their own strategy. CSK built a spin-heavy bowling attack hoping to benefit from favourable home conditions, but despite their plans, the team lost most of their home matches.
CSK in IPL 2025: Inconsistent Batting
Chennai Super Kings' biggest weakness this season was their batting order and the inconsistencies within it. The team relies on players like Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Ruturaj Gaikwad for the top order, but they left the middle order completely to the all-rounders without having any experienced middle-order player to stabilise the innings. This strategy failed, which was evident in their batting performance, and got even worse when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured.
CSK in IPL 2025: Bowling Department
CSK built a very spin-heavy bowling attack, including the veteran Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja alongside Afghan spinner Noor Ahmed. Only Noor could leave his mark, as he was the highest wicket-taker by the end of the group stage, but the other bowlers disappointed and missed the charm they were once known for. The team also lacked a match-winner and experienced pacer, relying on Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesa Pathirana.
