IPL 2025: BCCI Cancels Fireworks and Honors Victims of Pahalgam Terror Attack Today Match

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a sensitive step following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. On Tuesday afternoon, terrorists opened fire near the popular tourist spot, killing at least 26 people. This heartbreaking incident is the worst in the Kashmir valley since the Pulwama attack in 2019. As the entire nation mourns this terrible loss, the BCCI has decided there will be no fireworks during the IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday, April 23. This gesture is meant to show respect for the victims and to stand in solidarity with the grieving families.

People close to the matter told Hindustan Times that players and umpires will wear black armbands as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the tragic attack.

A minute's silence will also be observed before the contest between Pat Cummins' SRH and Hardik Pandya's MI starts.

"We are shocked by this attack. We have decided that there will be no cheerleaders and fireworks in today’s IPL match in Hyderabad. Players and umpires will wear black armbands. One minute's silence will also be observed before the start of the game,” a BCCI official told Hindustan Times.

Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya Express Condolences Following Tragic Attack in Pahalgam

Earlier, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya shared heartfelt messages on Instagram, expressing their deep sadness over the tragic incident that happened in Pahalgam on Tuesday.

"Deeply saddened by the heinous attack in Pahalgam on innocent people. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength to families of all those who lost their lives and justice to be served for this cruel act," Kohli wrote.

"Devastated by the news from Pagalham. My thoughts are with those affected and their families." Hardik wrote.

According to the Kashmir police, at least four terrorists shot at a group of tourists from a very close distance. The daughter of one of the victims told news agency PTI that the attackers mainly aimed at the men in the group. "There were several tourists around, but the terrorists specifically targeted male tourists after asking whether they were Hindu or Muslim," she told PTI.
