IPL 2025 Bat Dimension Rules: What’s New and Why On-Field Checks Matter

This year, IPL has made a new rule umpires will now check bats during the match to make sure all players are using fair and legal bats.
New Bat Size Rules
From the Front (Face of the Bat):
➤ Bat blade can be up to 550 mm long
➤ Full bat can be up to 965 mm long
➤ Bat width can be up to 108 mm
A special tool is used to check if the bat is the right size. It must slide smoothly from top to bottom of the bat’s face. If it gets stuck, the bat is too thick.
From the Side (Edge and Middle Part):
➤ Edge thickness: up to 40 mm
➤ Middle bump (spine): up to 67 mm
These sizes stop players from using bats that are too thick or have extra bulge to hit harder.
Why Are Bats Checked During the Match Now?
Before, bats were only checked in the dressing room and only one bat per player was inspected. Some players would get one legal bat approved but secretly use a bigger, more powerful bat during the game.
This caused problems like:
➤ Some players hitting better with thicker, unfair bats
➤ Not all players having the same chance
What’s New in IPL 2025
Now, umpires will check every bat on the field, during the match.
This helps to:
➤ Make sure all bats follow the rules
➤ Keep the game fair for everyone
