India vs South Africa Day 2 Highlights: South Africa Posts 489, India Steady at 2/480

[ Poll: dw9lm6ZO ]

The umpires gathered for a discussion, and with the light meter not working, Richard Kettleborough and Rod Tucker decided to call it a day early. Day 2 ended sooner than usual, a day that clearly belonged to South Africa. They batted strongly to reach 489 runs. Later in the day, they tried to make some inroads into the Indian batting lineup, but with fading light, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal held firm. India ended the day at 9/0, still 480 runs behind.

South Africa started the session at 247/6. Kyle Verreynne and Senuran Muthusamy battled hard in the first session. They faced 27.1 overs and scored just 69 runs without losing any wickets.

South Africa Dominate Day 2, Post-Tea Fight from India Holds Steady

In the post-Tea session, Verreynne perished, trying to up the scoring rate and he was out stumped to Ravindra JadejaMarco Jansen joined him in the middle and started to take the attack to the Indian bowlers. He added 97 runs off 106 balls for the 8th wicket.

Muthusamy got to his maiden Test ton, he perished soon for 109. Jansen added 31 and 27 runs with Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj, respectively, for the 9th and 10th wicket before chopping a ball back onto his stumps off Kuldeep Yadav.

Jansen fell agonisingly short of his maiden Test ton, losing his wicket for 93. With that, South Africa were bowled out for 489. With just over 30 minutes left in the day's play. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul managed to see the day through without any hiccups. Jaiswal is not out on 7 and KL Rahul is unbeaten on 2. India are still 480 runs and have a mountain to climb.
