India Cricket Begins Practice at Eden Gardens Ahead of 2nd Test vs South Africa
The India cricket team will start their first practice session on Tuesday at Eden Gardens after losing the first Test against South Africa. Without their captain Shubman Gill for three innings, India lost by 30 runs, ending their winning streak in Kolkata. The second Test between India and South Africa will begin in Guwahati on November 22.
According to ESPNCricinfo, Team India will train at Eden Gardens on Tuesday and then travel to Guwahati on Wednesday. Shubman Gill, who was discharged from the hospital on Sunday evening, will not join the practice or travel with the team. Reports say that because flying is not advised for neck problems, Gill is unlikely to travel on the same day as the team.
Shubman Gill had to retire hurt after facing just three balls in the first innings due to a sweep shot. The BCCI later confirmed that he suffered a neck spasm and would miss the rest of the first Test. He was admitted to a hospital and monitored by Dr. Dinesh Pardiwala.
In a statement on November 16, the BCCI said, “Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the day’s play. He will take no further part in the Test and will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team.”
