India Announce 15-Member Women’s World Cup Squad: Harmanpreet to Lead, Mandhana as Deputy

[ Poll: ayMm46yM ]

The BCCI has named India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming Women’s World Cup, with Harmanpreet Kaur leading the team as captain. Smriti Mandhana has been picked as vice-captain, and both she and head coach Amol Majumdar were present at the selection meeting in Mumbai. One of the surprising decisions was the exclusion of Shafali Verma, even though coach Majumdar had supported her after the England series.

Shafali was part of the India A team on the recent tour of Australia, but she couldn’t make much of an impact in the six white-ball matches, which also included three one-dayers. As for the main squad, the selection went as expected, with no real surprises.

India name squad for Women’s World Cup; Shafali misses out

All-rounder Amanjot Kaur is currently injured and is in the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. She has not been picked for the ODI series against Australia and is given time to recover for the World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur expressed confidence that Amanjot will regain fitness in time for the mega event.

India's squad for the Women's World Cup: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Deepti Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Richa Ghosh (WK), Kranti Gaud, Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, Sree Charani, Yastika Bhatia (WK) and Sneh Rana, Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Singh Thakur
